Winner of Our Spring Poetry Fiction Writing Prompt Contest!

A picture of two buds about to bloom.

Happy Friday everyone! We hope you’ve been enjoying National Poetry Month as much as we have! It’s a great time to revisit some of the classics or to create something new! That’s why last week we asked writers if they could write a poem inspired by the new growth of spring.

We had several wonderful entries, and while we enjoyed all them we could only choose one. This week’s winning entry belongs to Robert McClellan! Congratulations Robert! And a special thanks to everyone who participated!

Don’t forget to check out the winning entry below!

Growth

By Robert McClellan

The hoary frost is over,
That white death has passed,
The soil now rich with yesteryear’s toil,
Is free to live at last.

The sun-starved shrubbery finds life anew,
As rays from heavens heights shine,
The tree tops now bask in the glory,
Their eager branches climb.

Smiles seem much brighter,
And cheer is felt by most,
For now the winters chill has ended,
And springing buds do boast.

The streets seem once again to be filled with laughter,
The lawns cluttered with care,
The familiar sounds of children playing,
A sense of life is in the air.

Yes, winter has now passed,
Though not without its mark,
A subtle reminder to live in the life, that spring has now sparked.
