Ami, Child of the Stars By Enrique Barrios Book Discussion

Photo of old and used hardback books.

When was the last time you had an adventure so out of the ordinary that you doubted anyone would ever believe you if you told them? You still want to tell them all about it because it was so magical and wonderful, but you know that if you try then for sure you’ll be laughed at. What about telling it anyway and then saying it’s just a story? It’s the oldest trick in the story of literature: we can always tell the wildest stories and the most controversial subjects as long as we mask them as fiction, that is. That way, your audience won’t be constantly fighting back or insisting that you’re lying. They will actually pay more attention to it and enjoy it a lot more. By all means, do remember this trick the next time you make friends with an alien and take a trip all over the galaxy on his UFO, because you’re going to be dying to tell everyone about it!

Ami, Child of the Stars, was originally written in Spanish by Enrique Barrios. It’s quite well known especially in Latin America and very easy to find in this language. However, since no reader should be left out, and copies in English are rare and difficult to find (plus insanely expensive for some odd reason), I will include the link to the free pdf version so everyone who is interested can download and read it:

So what’s special about this book? Just like all important and deep messages, it’s delivered in the form of a story that one might think it’s just for children. If we don’t make the effort to look any closer, we might even miss out on something really special! Here are just a few sparks of awareness that this book can bring us:

Age does not exist

The time we’ve been living on this Earth doesn’t determine our attitude, our self-worth or our abilities. As Ami says, there are old people who are just 10 years old and children who are 100. On Ami’s planet, as well as other evolved planets, the concept of “old” doesn’t refer to chronological age. In their languages, “old” means “someone who has lost the joy of living,” and therefore, it’s determined by our choices and not fate.

We are permanently hypnotized

Ami, the alien boy, explains to 9-year-old Jim that one of the reasons why only children are open to hearing about evolved planets in which everyone lives in peace and there is nothing dangerous, painful or horrible, is because the ‘adult mind’ is often afraid of miracles. To an “adult” or an “old person”—using the meaning described above—it’s easier to believe in the horrible, even if it’s false, than in the marvelous, even if it’s true. Ami calls this “being hypnotized by a collective nightmare.” When one wakes up from it, everything is beautiful.

Evil is the opposite of intelligent

Ami brings a new concept of intelligence: the closer to peace and universal love, the more evolved and truly intelligent we are. We tend to think of “advanced civilizations” as those with higher technologies, really high IQs, and huge brains. More often than not, this description also includes a species with no emotions, cold computer-like beings who have forgotten what music is. Beings who live in huge cities, surrounded by plastic and artificial things. Beings who no longer know what love means and who never play or laugh. But this couldn’t be further from the truth! Ami also reveals that the Fundamental Law of the Universe happens to be… Okay, I won’t spoil the mystery with that one. 😉

Our planet’s present and future

Just like the alien in The day the Earth stood still, Ami comes to warn us that humans cannot go on like this. We cannot continue developing technology without developing our hearts at the same pace, or we’ll destroy ourselves. We cannot continue developing weapons capable of destroying the whole planet. We cannot continue eating animals, hunting them, or causing them any pain for our enjoyment. We cannot continue neglecting our sensitivity, the wishes of our hearts, our connection with the Universe. It’s time for us Earthlings to wake up and get out of our collective nightmare hypnosis. It’s time to make our Earth evolve and become a planet of joy and beauty, where all beings respect and love one another.
Because of its evolutionary and magical nature, Ami, Child of the Stars is the perfect book to begin the New Year with: it will bring change, positivity, awareness and Universal Love into your life. On top of that, it makes the perfect gift for both children and grown-ups. If you speak Spanish you can get the printed version on Amazon. If you get the English pdf, you can still print it out and make a beautiful handmade book, personalize it for your loved ones and celebrate a more evolved New Year—even if it is a month later.

Happy New Planet!
